ALMS Encampment

Hey everyone,

This is FO Tyler Gresham, and I just want to inform you about this year's encampment, held at Fort McClellan, in Anniston, AL.

Last Monday, at promotions, Capt. Harrison explained that in his opinion, one of the most valuable ribbons a cadet (or senior member!) can have is the encampment ribbon. He said it proves to him that the member has applied himself to learning customs, courtesies, and CAP's core values.

Before last week, I did not know that senior members could attend. I figured the staff positions were held for people with lots of experience and many activities under their belt. I did some research and sent some emails, and was informed that the 'job' of Tactical Officer was mine if I wanted it for this encampment.

I hope you don't let this opportunity get by you, it sounds like an awesome opportunity to learn, and that's why I've applied, and am attending the staff weekend. I don't want to get left behind in learning and training!

The basic cadet application process isn't open yet, but I'll post up again when it opens, and I hope to see plenty of you sign up for it! One thing you can do to get ahead of the game is you can go on and fill out/print off a Form 31.

It's a good idea to go on and get that filled out, because you will need your parents signature, either Capt. Harrison, or Capt. Otero's signature, a colour picture made, and a very brief medical history filled out. Last minute hysteria happens a lot, especially in my family, but it's not a good way to run a operation.

AL-032 Again Leads Wing at FTX Training Cycle

Congratulations to all AL-032 participants in the recent FTX training cycle! I just received the following e-mail message from Major Long:

Capt. Harrison,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your unit's participation in this year's Alabama Wing FTX Program.  I would also like to congratulate the unit, as Maxwell once again led Alabama Wing in both participants (20) and graduates (12) in the Wing's ground team training program.  Your unit now has 3 new Basic Ground Team Members, 5 new Advanced Ground Team Members, 3 new Team Leaders, and 1 new Ground Branch Director; this is something that the unit should be very proud of.  Again, thanks and congratulations.

NESA Applications Being Accepted

Online applications are now being accepted for the 2008 National Emergency Services Academy (NESA) at: https://ntc.cap.af.mil/ops/nesa/  Slots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis through the 18th of May 2008 or until slots are filled, whichever comes first. Members are encouraged to apply soon to get into the course or courses they desire.

Cadet Special Activities

Applications for 2008 Cadet Special Activities Now Being Accepted

Cadets - Now is the time to consider and apply for 2008 National Cadet Special Activities! There are many exciting opportunities to choose from and from my experience with the programs I can tell you that the quality of this experience cannot be matched!

Senior Members - You may also apply for Cadet National Special Activities. You may serve as cadet escorts or on certain activities fully participate!

Activities cover Air Force Careers, Aviation Careers, Leadership Careers, and Technology Careers. The following are just a few of the activities you may attend: Spending a week at the Cessna Aircraft Company; An academically-intense course alongside Air Force student pilots at the Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training Familiarization Course (SUPTFC); A one-week introduction to the rigorous mission of the USAF Pararescueman at the USAF Pararescue Orientation Course; An in-depth look at Air Force Space Command including launch systems, missile operations, orbital mechanics, and command and control systems at the AF Space Command Familiarization Course; Supporting the largest airshow in the world at National Blue Beret; Explore modern Aerospace Engineering and Technologies at Auburn University; Participate in both Powered and Glider Flight Encampments; and attend an academically challenging Cadet Officer School (here in Montgomery) patterned after the USAF Squadron Officer School studying leadership skills in-depth. Note: To attend any National Cadet Special Activity you must have attended at least one Cadet Encampment.
